Asphalt is highly recyclable. Reclaimed asphalt is a good alternative for those who can’t afford new asphalt. Using reclaimed asphalt is not recommended for all jobs. However, in the right situation, it is a lower-cost point alternative.
Did you know that since 1970 the asphalt industry has worked hard to lower emissions? To date, it’s estimated that the sector has lower emissions by almost 100%. Meanwhile, it has simultaneously increased production by 250%.
The process of making reclaimed asphalt creates almost no harmful emissions. What is emitted is mist made practically entirely of steam. Steam comes from heating gravel, sand, and rock to 300 degrees, the temperature needed to mix with asphalt oil or the glue that binds the materials together.
There are many uses of RAP. A few ways we use it include:
- As a base or subbase on highways or roads for municipal clients.
- As a base layer for residential driveways, gravel roads, parking lots, and walkways.
- Used as an aggregate base or subbase on paved roads and shoulders.
- Surfacing gravel roads.
- Building a strong foundation base.
- A short curing time.
- Utility trench fill.
- Resurfacing of roads, driveways, and parking lots.
